Standard 125cc
There are two types of licence:
A LIGHT MOTORCYCLE LICENCE (A1)
You must be the holder of a UK driving licence which has two parts:
- Photo card
- Paper counterpart
(unless you have a old style paper licence).
If you hold an EU licence you must apply for a UK driver number
After successfully completing a Compulsory Basic Training course (CBT), within 2 years you must pass: a motorcycle theory test 2 practical tests - modular 1 and modular 2
This allows you to ride any bike up to 125cc with a power output of 11kw. The practical tests are taken on a bike between 75cc and 125cc.
A STANDARD MOTORCYCLE LICENCE (A2)
You must be the holder of a UK driving licence which has two parts:
- Photo card
- Paper counterpart
(unless you have a old style paper licence).
If you hold an EU licence you must apply for a UK driver number
After successfully completing a Compulsory Basic Training course (CBT), within 2 years you must pass: a motorcycle theory test 2 practical tests - modular 1 and modular 2
This is obtained if the practical tests were taken on a bike over 120cc but no more than 125cc. It must be capable of reaching at least 100kmph. After this, you will be restricted to riding a bike of up to 25kw with a power/weight ratio not exceeding 0.16kw/kg. After these 2 years you are able to ride any size of bike.
